Bring Your Own Apollo: Free Sourcing

If your team already pays for Apollo, connect it as a data source. Find More Like This pulls candidates straight from your Apollo seat — and that sourcing costs zero InsightSignal credits.

Data is a commodity. Intelligence isn't.

The modern revenue stack has quietly split in two. At the bottom is data supply — the raw companies and contacts, increasingly a commodity sold by a dozen interchangeable providers. On top sits the intelligence layer that decides which of those records are actually worth your time. The trouble is that most teams pay full freight for both, often buying the same underlying data twice through different tools — while their reps spend less than a third of the week actually selling, the rest lost to admin, research, and stitching tools together.

If your team already pays for Apollo, you already own a seat in that data-supply layer. InsightSignal now lets a team connect that Apollo account as a data source — so the sourcing you're already paying Apollo for doesn't cost you InsightSignal credits on top.

Two kinds of data source

Sourcing is what powers Find More Like This: you hand InsightSignal a few of your best customers, it builds an Ideal Customer Profile, and it pulls matching candidates to verify. Where those candidates come from is the data source, and there are two kinds.

  • Managed sourcing (every workspace). The default. InsightSignal's built-in data network automatically queries multiple independent providers, blends and deduplicates the results, and hands you the pool. Nothing to connect, no keys to manage — it's included in your normal credit balance.
  • Bring your own Apollo (team organizations). If your team holds an Apollo subscription, an admin can connect it as an additional source, and Find More Like This can pull candidates straight from your Apollo seat.
The payoff — and the one thing people get wrong

Sourcing through your own Apollo account consumes zero InsightSignal credits. Apollo bills your account directly on the plan you already have, and InsightSignal charges nothing for the candidates it pulls from it.

Here's the part worth reading twice, because it's the single most common point of confusion: verification still costs credits at the normal rate. Only the sourcing step is free. Every candidate you keep and verify is charged exactly as it would be otherwise — what you save is the cost of finding them, not the cost of verifying them. If you connect Apollo and still see credits move, that's verification doing its job, not a billing surprise.

A team feature, governed like one

Apollo as a data source is team-organizations only — personal workspaces always use managed sourcing. And because it touches both spend and data, it follows the same default-deny governance as CRM destinations: nothing connects until an admin allows it.

  • An owner or admin (or a member granted the integrations capability) connects it. Regular members and viewers can see whether Apollo is connected, but can't connect or disconnect it.
  • There's one shared Apollo connection per organization, not one per member. Once an admin connects it, every member's Find More Like This runs can source through it.

That's deliberately different from CRM connections, where each member links their own seat. For a paid data source, one governed connection is the point.

Connecting it
  • 1. Switch into your team organization using the workspace switcher.
  • 2. Go to Integrations → Data Sources and find the Apollo card. (If it's not there, an admin needs to enable Apollo in the organization's integration settings first.)
  • 3. Click Connect. A popup opens to Apollo's sign-in and consent screen.
  • 4. Sign in to Apollo and approve. The card flips to Connected and shows your Apollo account name.

One note on plans: Apollo's company-search depth depends on your Apollo subscription. A paid plan gives the richest search; a free plan is more limited; plans with no company-search access can't source at all. The connected card shows which search level your account supports.

Choosing a source at run time

With Apollo connected, Find More Like This can draw from it in addition to — or instead of — managed sourcing. On the candidate-review screen, each company shows which source found it, so you can see at a glance where every prospect came from before you spend a credit verifying it. Not connected, or running in a personal workspace? Runs just use managed sourcing, exactly as before.

The intelligence layer, on the data you already own

This is the unbundled-stack thesis made practical. InsightSignal isn't trying to be your data vendor; it's the layer that turns whatever raw supply you have into verified, graded, decision-ready intelligence. If you're already paying Apollo for that supply, there's no reason to pay for it a second time.

Connect the seat you already own, point Find More Like This at it, and keep your credits for the part that actually creates the advantage — verification. New to sourcing?
