Connect InsightSignal to Claude and ChatGPT.
Query your verified company and contact intelligence directly inside Claude or ChatGPT — no API key, no copy-paste, no context switching.
What this connects
InsightSignal is your private knowledge graph of verified companies, people, research reports, and intent scores. Until now you queried it through the InsightSignal web app or your CRM after a push. The custom connector lets Claude or ChatGPT query that same graph mid-conversation. You ask 'what's the latest research on Acme Corp?' or 'which A-grade healthcare companies have I verified this month?' and the answer comes from your verified data, not the model's training knowledge.
Why use a connector instead of copy-paste
- No API key handling. OAuth means you sign in once with your InsightSignal account (email/password, Google, Microsoft, or LinkedIn). Claude or ChatGPT remember; you don't manage credentials.
- Always-current data. The connector pulls live from your InsightSignal account every query. No staleness from a chat-window paste.
- Scoped to you. Your queries can only see your verified data. Multi-tenancy is enforced at the access-token level — no cross-user leakage.
- Read-only if you want it. At the consent screen, uncheck the write scope to give Claude or ChatGPT read-only access. They can answer questions about your data but cannot start verifications, push to your CRM, or make any other changes.
- Audit trail. Every authorized agent appears under Integrations → Manage Access → Connected Apps in InsightSignal, with the date it was authorized and a one-click Revoke.
Prerequisites
- Claude. Claude.ai (web) or Claude Desktop. Custom connectors are available on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. On Team and Enterprise, only an Owner or Primary Owner can add a custom connector to the organization.
- ChatGPT. Custom connectors are available on Business, Enterprise, or on Plus/Pro with Developer Mode enabled. On Business/Enterprise/Education workspaces, an admin enables Developer mode org-wide first (Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data).
- InsightSignal account. Any active account — personal or team. Sign in normally during the connector setup.
Setup — Claude
- 1. In InsightSignal, go to Integrations → Browse → AI Assistants & Tools and click the Claude card. The modal that opens shows the MCP URL you will paste in the next step.
- 2. In Claude (Desktop or Claude.ai web), open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector (Pro/Max). On Team/Enterprise, an admin instead goes to Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web.
- 3. Fill in the dialog: Name = "InsightSignal", Remote MCP server URL = the MCP URL from the InsightSignal modal. Leave Advanced settings empty — no OAuth Client ID or Secret needed.
- 4. Click Add, then click Connect on the connector card. A popup opens to the InsightSignal sign-in page — sign in with your existing account (email/password, Google, Microsoft, or LinkedIn).
- 5. Approve the requested scopes. Tip: uncheck the write scope if you want Claude to be read-only. The popup closes and the connector shows as Connected. Enable it from the connectors menu inside any conversation.
Now in any Claude conversation you can ask things like 'show me my A-grade healthcare companies' or 'what's the research on Acme?' and Claude will pull from your InsightSignal data when relevant.
Setup — ChatGPT
- 1. (Workspace admin, one-time, Business/Enterprise/Education only.) In your workspace settings, open Permissions & Roles → Connected Data and enable Developer mode / Create custom MCP connectors. Plus/Pro users on personal accounts skip this and just enable Developer mode for themselves in step 3.
- 2. In InsightSignal, go to Integrations → Browse → AI Assistants & Tools and click the ChatGPT card. The modal shows the MCP URL you will paste in step 4.
- 3. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and toggle Developer mode on. Back in Apps & Connectors, click Create — the New App dialog opens.
- 4. Fill in the dialog: Icon (optional, PNG ≥256×256, max 10 KB) = your InsightSignal app icon if you have one; Name = "InsightSignal"; Description (optional) = "Query my verified company and contact intelligence"; MCP Server URL = the MCP URL from the InsightSignal modal; Authentication = OAuth (default).
- 5. Tick the "I understand and want to continue" risk acknowledgement (required), then click Create. Click Connect on the new app — a popup opens to the InsightSignal sign-in page. Sign in with your existing account, approve the requested scopes (uncheck write to make ChatGPT read-only), and the popup closes. The app shows as Connected. Each workspace member signs in with their own InsightSignal account so queries are scoped to their own data.
What you can ask
- What verified companies do I have in fintech graded A or B?
- Show me the research report on Acme Corp.
- Who are the top 5 contacts at companies in my Sales Prospect intent profile, sorted by readiness?
- Compare Acme Corp and Beta Industries on quality, completeness, and recent updates.
- Which discovered entities still need enrichment in my graph?
- Verify Globex Corporation — they're a fintech in Singapore. (This triggers a Quick Verify; the model will ask you to approve the credit cost first.)
- Push these three companies to my CRM. (Same — approval required before credits are spent.)
Read-only queries are immediate. Action tools (verification, research, enrichment, CRM push) consume credits, so the model always shows you the estimated cost and asks for explicit approval before running them.
Power-user alternative for Claude Desktop
If you specifically want a one-click extension install on Claude Desktop instead of the OAuth-based custom connector, the Claude card in Integrations → Browse → AI Assistants & Tools has a "Prefer the one-click .mcpb extension on Claude Desktop?" disclosure that walks you through that path. The extension uses an InsightSignal API key (created under Manage Access → API Keys) instead of OAuth, and only works in the desktop app — not in the web app. Most users should stick with the OAuth flow above.
What stays on InsightSignal
InsightSignal does not send your verified data to OpenAI or Anthropic in bulk. The connector exposes per-query access scoped to whatever the model needs to answer your question. To revoke access, either disconnect the connector inside Claude/ChatGPT or revoke it under Integrations → Manage Access → Connected Apps inside InsightSignal — either action immediately invalidates the connector's access token.
Troubleshooting
- Sign-in popup closes immediately. Usually third-party cookies blocked or popup blocked. Allow third-party cookies for *.openai.com, *.anthropic.com, and *.insightopus.com, and unblock popups for the AI client.
- "Connector does not see my data." Start a new conversation — existing threads may not pick up a newly-connected connector. Then confirm the connector shows as Connected in the client, and verify InsightSignal appears under Integrations → Manage Access → Connected Apps in InsightSignal.
- Password change did not log out the AI client. By design — changing your InsightSignal password does not auto-revoke connected apps. To force re-authentication, click Disconnect in the AI client or Revoke next to the entry under Integrations → Manage Access → Connected Apps.
- Persistent failures. Email [email protected] with the timestamp and a one-line description of the query that failed.
